In a whistleblower unfair business practice lawsuit, Quest Diagnostics recently agreed to pay $241 million to the state’s Medi-Cal program. A worker at another medical laboratory reported the unfair business practices saying that Quest Diagnostics’ practices gave them an unfair and illegal advantage over other laboratories.
The lawsuit accused Quest Diagnostics of overcharging Medi-Cal and paying kickbacks to doctors, hospitals, and clinics that used and recommended their services.
Quest denied the accusations but said they would settle “to put the law behind [them].” The state’s attorney general held a 3-year investigation into the claims after they were reported.
