Golden Globes Lawsuit Against Dick Clark Prods. Can Proceed

A U.S. District Court judge ruled Monday the Hollywood Foreign Press Association can pursue its breach of contract lawsuit against Dick Clark Productions.

The HFPA filed the breach of contract lawsuit in November. The suit alleges Dick Clark Productions negotiated an unauthorized six-year extension with NBC for the broadcast rights to the Golden Globes. Attorneys for Dick Clark Productions filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which was denied Monday.

HFPA president Philip Berk issued a statement following the judges decision, which said: “We are thrilled that the federal judge ruled in our favor that our lawsuit, claiming that Dick Clark Productions has no right to the Golden Globe Awards beyond 2011, has merit. We will continue to fight to reclaim all of our rights.”
